How does it work?
- All ICU clinicians welcome
- Registrars expected to attend as part of teaching
- Participation in journal club will form part of registrar assessment
- One registrar rostered each week to present an article
- 15 minute presentation of article
- 5 minute focussed summary of a biostatistics or epidemiology concept related to the paper
- 20 minutes discussion time and questions
- paper will be circulated via email on preceding Friday.
- attendees are allowed to eat lunch or drink coffee whilst listening intently!
How do I analyse and present the paper?
- A powerpoint presentation is preferred but not essential
- You may wish to use the following structure to summarise the trial:
- What is the research question?
- Background
- Type of study
- Population
- Inclusion
- Exclusion
- Intervention
- Outcomes
- Primary outcomes
- Secondary outcomes
- Results
- Authors’ conclusion
- Criticisms and commentary

Which paper will I present?
- The consultant group can select and suggest papers.
- The registrar is free to choose any gold standard papers related to our current practice.
