Care of the Dying Patient
When the focus of care for a patient is for comfort only, Bendigo Hospital ICU has a pathway to facilitate a multidisciplinary approach to provide a compassionate, dignified death and support the needs of the family.
The Care of the Dying Patient checklist is found here, and on the G drive/CCU/Palliative Care.
Further support resources available include The Dying Process brochure which can be helpful to support discussions with families on what to expect as their loved one dies. This brochure is available in the ICU waiting room. Please notify the ward clerks or Dr Jan Yeung if further copies are required. Additional resources will soon be available for staff and families to help understand the grieving process and provide practical information, e.g. how to arrange a funeral, creating memorial pieces, creating a peaceful environment.
Other information on Care of the Deceased Adult and Care of the Deceased Paediatric Patient can be found on PROMPT.
