Drug Infusions A to Z (information on all drugs below available on PROMPT - can access offsite via the link under CLINICAL)
Adrenaline - adrenaline may be considered if both inotropy and chronotropy are required.
Aminophylline - aminophylline may be considered for intubated, severe, acute asthma in children who are not responding to iv salbutamol.
Amiodarone - amiodarone is the preferred agent for most arrhythmias. A loading dose should be used with consideration of an infusion to follow.
Dexmedetomidine - dexmedetomidine may be considered for patients who are agitated particularly if aiming for extubation.
Dobutamine - dobutamine may be considered if only inotropy is required.
Glyceryl trinitrate IV - GTN is the preferred agent if a vasodilator infusion is required.
Heparin
Insulin infusion - see also DKA and HHS protocols (see PROMPT)
Isoprenaline - isoprenaline is the preferred agent if only chronotropy is required.
Ketamine - can be a useful adjunct for pain relief
Labetalol
Midazolam - midazolam infusions should be considered only after discussion with the intensivist on duty.
Milrinone
Octreotide
Sodium nitroprusside
Noradrenaline - noradrenaline is the preferred vasopressor as a sole agent, with addition of vasopressin if >20mcg/min of noradrenaline is required consistently.
Propofol - propofol is one of the preferred agent for sedation.
Salbutamol IV
Vasopressin - vasopressin should be considered if >20mcg/min of noradrenaline is required consistently.
