Expectations for Consultants

  • A consultant will be rostered to Clinical Support Time (CST) for Wednesdays teaching sessions proportional to fractional employment of CST  as part of yearly rostering as a session supervisor (11 am to 5 pm)
  • The rostered consultant will work with the allocated registrars and rostered registrars before the session to deliver a session based on its allocated theme.
  • Themed sessions should align, as much as possible, with relevant current CICM curriculum and syllabus (2014), CICM assessments (Past Examination Questions, Vivas, Hot Cases, Objective Clinical Encounters (OCE), Workplace Based Assessments (WBA), National Quality and Safety Standards and current ICU departmental policies.
  • Supervision of the session, along with some direct teaching responsibility, is anticipated at each session
  • The supervising consultant may refer the coordinating registrars to CICM resources for the preparing registrar for the session theme according to the syllabus
    • from the CICM curriculum and using resources from www.cicm.org.au
  • Consultants may swap allocated teaching sessions and must ensure that the session is covered by another.
  • The consultant group will offer resources to colleagues to ensure ease of lesson preparation
  • Clinically rostered consultants will provide full clinical coverage for the rostered Clinical Support time with appropriate HMO and other clinician support.
  • Repeated non-attendance, professionalism issues or clinical concerns raised in teaching must be reported to the Supervisors of Training for further management
  • An attendance form is to completed and returned to the ICU Education leader after each session
