This handover document is separate from the unit specific orientation written by the departments. It is intended that each HMO will update this document towards the end of their term and will send the corrected version to Bianca in HMO Support so that this guide can be made available to all other HMOs (will be intranet based). Specifically each subsequent HMO will actively add any important information that may assist the next HMO.
INTRODUCTION
Intensive Care is an excellent rotation for gaining procedural skills and exposure to acutely ill patients. It is very helpful if you attend the BASIC course before/early on in your placement, and review its materials in the weeks before the rotation.

- Documentation of daily ICU ward round
- Admission and discharge assessments, examinations, summaries
- Liase with treating home teams regarding patient updates, plans and discharges
- IVCs +/- IDC, NGT
- Maintenance of inpatient drug charts and fluid and infusion orders
- Ordering of pathology and imaging
- Update of inpatient medical handover list
- External referrals
