MET call team behaviourMET calls are an example of the formation of an ad hoc team around a deteriorating patient. Each aspect of the team’s function can be understood in the ‘Ad Hoc team process’. The MET registrar must assist in each aspect of the MET behaviour where contemporaneous assessment, diagnosis and management must occur, often with team members who are not well known.

The MET must develop early leadership with establishment of team role structure, communication and goals. The patient and family must be included throughout the entire in this process. The aim of the MET is to safely and rapidly develop and execute a management plan for the deteriorating patient.
