This is a multi-centre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of nebulised heparin in 256 intensive care unit patients who have a mild, moderate or severe acute lung injury. These patients might have pneumonia, COPD, asthma, aspiration pneumonitis/pneumonia, pancreatitis, sepsis or septic shock, major surgery, drug overdose...etc
The study medication is 25 000 iu Heparin in 5ml 0.9% Sodium chloride, nebulised every 6 hours for the duration of mechanical ventilation up to maximum of 10 days. |
