Autsin Primary Exam Education - teleconferenced to Bendigo Dr Tamishta Hensman (ICU Advanced Trainee, The Austin) has developed an ICU Primary teaching program, which is available through Teleconference to Bendigo. This is an excellent opportunity for accessing regular Primary teaching and developing both a study group and a relationship with other registrars in Melbourne. If you are interested in participating, please email Tamishta Hensman (firstname.lastname@example.org) to be added to the mailing list. Click here for more information.
There is some clinical exam preparation incorporated into the formal Fellowship exam courses. However, hot cases are largely organised on an adhoc basis at any hospital typically via the duty registrar. In the lead up to the clinical exams, RMH, Austin Hospital and Alfred Hospital offer set days for hot cases to which external trainees can 'sign up' - for more details, contact their ICU registrar on duty. Other hospitals arrange external trainee hot cases on an individual basis. The Bendigo ICU consultants can also facilitate contacting colleagues who are keen to help.
The Victorian Intensive Care Education Network (VICEN) was established in 2010, and has evolved to a 15 member collaborative that provides a day long education session for current ICU trainees in Victoria. Each member hospital aims to showcase their departmental speciality of interest, providing a wide range of topics for trainees through a mixture of lectures, simulation, hands-on practical tutorials, exam preparation and small group discussions. VICEN takes place on the second Tuesday of each month. For more details, or to book a place at the next session, go to: vicen.org.au, or download the TeamAPP via the Victorian IC Education website to receive all VICEN updates. This is a highly recommended part of Fellowship clinical exam preparation.
