Paediatric BASIC Provider & Instructor Courses

Paediatric BASIC Provider Course
The Paediatric BASIC course is primarily designed as an introduction to Paediatric Intensive Care for doctors and nurses with either limited experience in Paediatrics or Intensive Care. As such it has proved popular with critical care nurses, Emergency Department doctors, paediatricians and doctors who have responsibility for critically ill children.

This is an interactive two day course and consists of brief clinically-based lectures, small group skill stations, e-learning and pre and post-course tests. A course manual is provided. It covers essential and fundamental aspects of Intensive Care, including: airway management, CPR, acute respiratory failure, mechanical ventilation, hemodynamic monitoring, diagnosis and management of shock, trauma, severe sepsis, acid base disturbances and transport of the critically ill child.

Participants must register via Eventbrite and are expected to have read the course manual and have completed the online MCQ test prior to attending the course which is available via the Paediatric BASIC website.

Lunch and refreshments are provided each day, as is a course dinner at one of Bendigo’s finest eateries.

Participants are strictly limited to 25.

May 2019 course
Our Inaugural Paediatric BASIC course was a fabulous and fun event.  We were fortunate to have a very diverse faculty from medical and nursing backgrounds as well as from other health services, including Queensland Children's Hospital, Monash Children's Hospital, Royal Children's Hospital and Geelong University Hospital.   And many thanks to the course participants who were really engaged and supportive of each other through the course.

Paediatric BASIC Instructor Course
This year, Bendigo Health hosted it's first Paediatric BASIC Instructor course to great success.  Another course will be be held in 2020.  This course is for doctors who want to develop their skills as instructors for the Paediatric BASIC course.  The course will cover fundamental adult learning theory, instructor and feedback-giving pearls, and information to guide delivery of the Paediatric BASIC course content.

Instructor candidates are required to attend all three days of the course which encompasses delivering lectures and skill stations at the Bendigo Paediatric BASIC provider course on the second and third days of the course.  If this interests you, reserve your spot early as numbers are strictly limited.
