Procedure database 

Oversight of the database and logbook

How

Each major invasive procedure performed in ICU is entered into the ICU (Google Docs) procedural database

The database automatically aggregates the data and provides a report.

        Procedures recorded include –
  1. Central lines
  2. Vascaths
  3. Arterial lines
  4. Pulmonary artery catheters
  5. Intubation
  6. Percutaneous tracheostomy
  7. Peripherally inserted central catheters

When    
Ongoing, database completed by proceduralist at procedure completion 


Why    
  1. To measure the number of procedures being done in ICU
  2. To measure complication rate per procedure
  3. Logbook for trainees

Reporting    
​Three monthly report –

1.    ICU morbidity and mortality meeting
2.    Written report

​Outcomes    
  1. Number of procedures 
  2. Procedure success rate
  3. Complication rate per procedure
  4. Proportion of each designation doing procedures
    1. Consultants
    2. Registrars
    3. HMOs
  5. Provide logbook for each trainee at end of rotation
