Quality & Safety (Q & S) Audits

Each registrar and Critical Care HMO will be allocated a quality assurance project in the first couple of weeks of commencing their attachment. It is expected that you will have a project plan completed within the first month, an update on your progress and present your outcomes prior to completing your attachment. Your mentor will support you with the project. Failure to complete this will be reflected in your final assessment.

For 2018 there are a number of ongoing audits and projects occurring in ICU, including:
  • Emergency Department admission time (AKA NEAT Audit)
  • Procedure database
  • Anastomotic leak audit
  • Case reviews
  • DKA study
  • Post-ICU follow-up
  • End-of-life-care facilitated by MET team
  • TEG (thromboelastogaph) audit
  • Inter-hospital transfer study

We will assign the registrars (and HMOs if they are interested) one of these after discussion with you – they are expected to be either published or presented at a conference as a poster.
